Miley Cyrus doesn't stink?
Ok. I admit it. I am over the age of 13 and I like Miley Cyrus music. I've added her latest song "Party in the USA" because I find myself dancing in the car to it. Enjoy!
The Official End of Summer

Landry started Kindergarten this past week. I'm not sure who was more excited - me or her. She enjoyed the shopping for school clothes more than meeting new friends. She's my introvert until you get to know her so new surroundings can sometimes be a challenge. She did great though! We are so PROUD of her!
After we picked her up from school, we headed to a cabin in Gatlinburg with Nana and The Blairs. Thanks, Mr. Steve! On Saturday night, the power went out for a few hours - what DRAMA that caused! But it was an awesome way to say goodbye to summer. We had a blast!
It's Almost Football Time in Tennessee!!!
Now that the Hardin Valley Fantasy Football draft his complete, we can turn our eyes toward the Big Orange kick-off on Saturday, September 5th. Recently, Landry got to meet Coach Lane Kiffin at a Downtown Rotary meeting. She was very shy with him until he told her that he had a daughter named Landry too. That's all it took!
Go VOLS!!!
Pappy's Pups
This blog is mostly about all the joy in my life but I would be remiss in not mentioning something very important that is missing in my life right now.
It has to do with Fantasy Football. Sounds shallow doesn't it? But last year my Dad won the Hardin Valley Fantasy Football league. That in itself isn't such an accomplishment (had teams that didn't even set a lineup) BUT it was the last time that he will get to play with us.
It's only been 4 months since he passed and I find that every day something pops up that remind me of him. While he was in my life, I didn't appreciate his presence and now that he is gone, I wish I had just one more minute with him.
So as I take the HVFF trophy to have his name engraved, it's bitter sweet. I know that he was so happy to win and it is still something that I can share with him. But on the other hand, he's not physically here.
People who haven't lost someone close to them can't grasp how important it is to TELL people you care. So hold your family and friends tight and never leave room for doubt.
So in memory of my Dad, I have added the song, "I Still Miss YOu." It is exactly how I feel right now (especially the second verse) and I feel close to him when I listen to it.
CONGRATULATIONS PAPPY's PUPS! I still miss you.
The Climb
As I get older, I listen to songs that were my favorite while growing up. I almost blush at the fact that my Mom actually let me listen to them and sing the words to the top of my lungs! Most were about very adult feelings and situations (i.e. Piano Man, You Shook Me All Night Long, and Push It). I would just sing along and not really think about the words.
Landry does it now. While we don't listen to the radio much in our car (most of the time the kids are watching movie while I am listening to the latest rant on UT football or the pitfalls of Obama's healthcare program on Talk Radio), she knows the words to songs by All American Rejects, Katy Perry and Pink - through osmosis I guess.
I am going to make an effort to start listening to songs that are appropriate for her - like the song on this blog, Miley Cyrus' "The Climb". It's more along the lines of what I hope Landry learns from me.
Life's a Beach!

You'd imagine that a trip to Hilton Head, SC, would be relaxing and I would be refreshed and ready for work upon my return...WRONG! While traveling with the entire Huckaby clan is fun (to say the least), taking 4 kids under 6 years of age to a beach is more exhausting than refreshing. But boy, did we have some adventures too!
Camden is still adverse to water and sand - especially on his face - while his cousin, Carson, is the biggest waterdog I've ever seen at his age (16 months old). Landry and Jordan are really starting to enjoy the waves and sun. One day we took a Kids Cruise with the girls and they got to go shrimping, crabbing and fishing for small sharks. According to them, they caught an 8 foot (hmm..8 inch) shark!
